Sports in Singapore

by admin on August 4, 2010

Singapore is an increasingly popular travel destination, known for being a crossroads of many cultures.  Your visit to Singapore doesn’t have to be all cultural festivals and museums however. There are many sports activities and venues to get you moving and our Singapore Guides will help you.

Because Singapore is surrounded by water, any kind of wet sport is popular here. Many people enjoy kayaking, even going out to see the whales up close and personal. There is also sailing, water skiing, and all types of sailing. You can make arrangements to man your own watercraft or go out on one of the many boat tours available. Make sure you know how to properly use the equipment before you go out.

Of all the water sports available, scuba diving is probably the most popular and for good reason — the undersea life is unique, especially if you visit the coral reefs of Pulau Hantu. Again, be sure you are qualified before you venture out alone.

If swimming is more your style, there are countless beaches to explore – but of course, you should follow all local regulations in order to stay safe. You don’t want to be endangered by a strong current or undertow. If you want to boost your swimming skills, there are many swimming pools that are open to the public.

Back on land, there are plenty of other activities in which to take part. As in the rest of the world, golf is becoming increasingly popular, especially as a way to form and strengthen business relationships.  Similarly tennis leagues abound, as well as badminton, squash and table tennis.

If team sports are what you crave, chances are you’ll find what you’re looking for as there are facilities available  for indoor and outdoor basketball, cricket,  football (both regular and American-style), rugby and volleyball.

Singapore is becoming increasingly popular for spectator sports, even hosting the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. It also has a 10-team professional football league. The Singapore National football team won the Tiger Cup, the Southeast Asian championship, in 2004 and 2007, so its games are very popular.

Racing sports are also available – watch the horses at the Singapore Turf Club and Formula One race cars at the Singapore Grand Prix in September, an event our singapore escorts love to be taken to!!

Those who know about Singapore’s hot, humid temperatures may be surprised to know that sports such as rock climbing and biking are popular. Of course, much of the rock climbing activity takes place indoors at one of the several climbing facilities. There are countless biking routes available, ranging from urban to recreational to touring class. You can easily find a bike to rent suitable for the terrain you want to explore.

It is even possible to run in Singapore. In fact there are many running events throughout the year, including the Singapore Sprint Series triathlon,

As you can see from this list, virtually any sports activity you like can be found in Singapore, including, believe it or not, ice hockey. There are two hockey associations, one for children and one for adults. Take in a game and beat the heat.

Sports abound in Singapore so there’s no excuse to not get moving. Sports are an ideal way to get to know the people and places of Singapore.
